Thyme to Be is a project that has been designed to make a difference to the health and wellbeing of family carers by providing practical horticultural-related activities in a relaxed setting. The wealth of research shows carers are often significantly disadvantaged by their caring role experiencing social isolation, loneliness and depression and not having time for themselves, socialising, or general down time. It can lead to them feeling overwhelmed, frustrated and depressed. Garden Organic is encouraging them to take time to relax, take a break and explore their own interests. Time will be given for a sociable lunch using healthy, fresh, home grown produce. Our evidence shows being involved in growing/gardening and the outdoors encourages reduced stress, improved diet, eating more fruit and veg, and being more active. Carers we have contact with report how beneficial they would find this activity. At a recent session one carer said ‘I had thoroughly enjoyed doing some simple, practical activities and felt inspired to go home and share the experience with her mother whom she cares for…’
