Blue badges for people with hidden disabilities (including dementia)

New guidelines on Blue Badges came into effect on 30th August 2019. These mean that people with hidden disabilities, such as dementia, will now be able to apply for Blue Badge parking permits. The guidance extends availability of the badge to people with hidden disabilities, as well as those with mobility issues.

The Blue Badge scheme helps those with a disability to park closer to where they need to go. You can apply for yourself, someone else or an organisation. A Blue Badge costs £10 and lasts up to 3 years. From the time an application is submitted, a decision is usually made within 12 weeks.

Warwickshire County Council will be using the new criteria (from the Department for Transport) to assess applicants’ eligibility for a blue badge, as eligibility is not automatic.

Further information (including eligibility and how to apply) can be found at:

Or please call Warwickshire County Council on 01926 410410 for further guidance.
